Presidents Report

Hi all.

Well spring has now sprung, the daffodils are out and causing even more area we are not allowed to drive on !!!! Damn those daffodils and their popping up all over the place in good 4wding areas.

Our annual prize giving had a great turn out at the Northern Wairoa Hotel. Well done Vanessa for organising this event.

In light of the points trophy not being given out for club points for some years, it was decided at the meeting to reinstate the points system. It is hoped that it may just be another way of encouraging participation in events and meetings. And a little/lot of light hearted competition to see who will be the winner of the trophy.

Mullets Night Run was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended, apparently a great time was had reminiscing on past adventures. It shows that an event doesn’t always have to be about driving to have a good time.

Cell phones seem to be causing a disruption to meetings. So I have decided that from now on any cell phones that ring will incur a fine payable to the Presidents New Tyre Fund!! Ha ha

August

Presidents Report

Hi All

I was away for a weekend at the start of August, and when I returned my TWIN brother who had been looking after the farm had had a 4WD run here. The only difference between him and myself is that he has BLUE hair….. Some of you may have met him!! The Blue Rinse Run was a great day with lots of mud some even having to winch downhill to get out of bog holes. The wet conditions making it very challenging in places and a very rutted track causing some newbies to exclaim in horror. A very small knob in one paddock became a undriveable hazard for some participants. A great turn out with 11 trucks.

The run down to Pouto with The Whangarei was a good winters day out, only two of us from the Kauri Coast met up with them (however others joined along the way). Good to foster good relations with our other Northland Clubs. We will be doing more of this a bit later in the year with some combined runs/events.

Get your SUBS paid before the end of August and come along to the Prize giving Dinner, basically its a meal for free. Our sub is one of the cheapest of the Four Wheel Drive Clubs out there and the benefits of being affiliated to the NZFWD Association make it very worth while to be a member.

Being a 4 wheel driver just means ”getting stuck in more inaccessible places”

July 2016

Presidents Report

Hi all,

a very cold start to July with Mullets Mud Run on the 2nd having a frost first thing. It was a challenging but drivable day with 8 trucks competing, although one was a trials truck so first place was a give in providing he didnt break down.

The course consisted of 7 different challenges having been basically set out the week before. A contestant still managed to drive part of it the wrong way even though he had been part of the setup crew!!!

Andy drove the swamp goat like a Harley leaning it over onto its side going around a corner, needless to say he didnt make it.

Chris had some issues with a wire caught on his tow bar causing his right front shocky to break free and the spring to fall out. Luckly his pit crew was able to repair it and he was able to carry on.

The day was won by 1st Guesty, 2nd Gary and 3rd Patch.

Next run at our place on the 6th of August “Escape the Winter Blues and come play in the MUD” see upcoming events for details.

Good to see some new trucks coming into the club, will be exciting to see how they perform in the mud…

Remember we need more stuff for the newsletter. Reports on runs, they don’t have to be long or fancy. And photos, there always seem to be a camera or phone recording things when you don’t want them too. So lets see some of the good and not so good driving and vehicles.

Someone once said “Money cant buy you happiness”  That guy obviously never owned a 4×4

June 2016

Presidents Report.

Hi All.

Well June turned us from Summer into winter almost overnight. However lately the temps have been better even though its wet.

We had a good turn out on the 12th June at the Pink Ribbon Run of Port Valleys at Kawakawa, with 5 Kauri Coast trucks there. A different type of run up a river, crossing in and out of it. Not overly challenging but a fun afternoon all the same.

The Brass Monkey Run on Saturday the 18th June ended up being a very mild winters night, no rain or frost in sight… Maybe due to Gary’s very impressive bonfire, fueled by Patch’s “large Log”. A group of us had an interesting drive down the beach inland from the dunes, requiring some extra support for female passengers. Although some even tried it “commando”only to endanger their driver with black eyes, and distract following trucks with views in the wing mirrors!!!! It was a great way to get down the beach rather than just driving on flat sand. The hill up to the lighthouse appeared to be challenging as the sand was very soft, some of us not used to a heavier Surf instead of a Suzuki only getting 3/4s of the way up!!! The night was spent by the 12 members and others yarning around the bonfire, and then in the morning after cooked breakfast’s some opted for fishing while others went exploring again. Then back home by road as high tide prevented us from driving up the beach.

Put some thought towards using local 4WD areas and also working in with other 4 wheel drive clubs. I will bring this up at the  next meeting to gauge the clubs support towards combining some runs with others.

“Just remember if your wheels are turning and your going nowhere… your probably stuck”!!!!!!!!!

May 2016

PRESIDENTS SPEECH

In the words of Donald Trump “Chris Your Fired”. But seriously thanks to Chris for a great job as President and to the out going Vice President Starfish and Secretary/Treasurer Serena for the awesome jobs they have done over the past years.

Welcome Andy as Vice President, Sam as Secretary, Vanessa as Treasurer / Editor and Kevin as Club Captain.

I am sure with this calibre of Committee and support of all the members of our club we can take Kauri Coast 4×4 Club forward to bigger and better things in the future.

We have some great runs planned ie Brass Monkey, Mullets Mud Run etc and heaps of runs not yet even thought of to come. So get your thinking caps on, its not hard or complicated to organise a day / half day run or event. The Wenches Run was an awesome day and we only played in one paddock!!!!!

Hope to shorten up the boring parts of the meeting and have our club nights having lots more social time. Often this is the only time we all get together, to have a catch up and a BS session with each other.

Finally lets all try to get some new members along, so they can see how much “FUN”being a Kauri Coast 4×4 club can be.
